• protectfile  premium  is a client resident, reliable and proven transparent file encryption solution, that can be used to protect all sensitive information from unauthorised access.
   

• As a scalable and modular tool, protectfile premium  is compatible with the mixed Microsoft^TM Windows^TM environment of your organisation and protects private as well as corporate shared data, locally or over the network.
   

• Using the latest technology, including optional Entrust^TM or Microsoft^TM PKI key managment*, protectfile premium  offers enhanced security, manageability, transparency and scalability.
   

• protectfile premium is largely running independent of the fileserver infrastructure. Therefore it is also possible to protect information on fileservers with UNIX or NovellTM operating system. 

How does it work?

All users must enroll to the Entrust™ or Microsoft™ PKI system and obtain a public key certifi cate from a Certificate Authority (CA). Users‘ certificates are deposited in a LDAP or X.500 compliant public key certificate repository.
  

Designated administrator users define a file directory/folder to be secured by encryption. The directory can be on a local drive or a remote server. The administrator can specify a list of authorized users to access the protected directory. protectfile premium automatically verifies those users’ public key credentials.
  

Only explicitly authorised users can recognize and access a protected directory and are able to access encrypted files in the directory. Encryption is done automatically and transparently with no interaction being required.
  

Users not explicitly authorized to access a protected directory are unable to see and access any of the encrypted files in that directory. Only designated users can assign access rights.
